Standard Policies and Procedures
The TI Standard Policies and Procedures contain the guidelines
for conducting business. The review cycle for the creation and
modification of any guideline includes the TI Ethics Office
when appropriate.
Several of the Standard Policies and Procedures apply directly
to ethical issues and address specific ethical requirements.
Examples include:
- the TI Procurement Policy
- expense reporting
- acceptance of gifts, travel and entertainment
- use of TI employees and assets to perform personal work
- conflicts of interest
- ethical inquiries and issues

The TI Commitment
One of the most important documents in establishing a company's
culture is a statement of its mission, principles and values.
At TI, that document is titled "The TI Commitment" and is
part of our Ethics Booklet. The first stated business principle
is to "perform with unquestionable ethics and integrity."
Since it is important that two-way expectations be established
early in any relationship, the TI Commitment contains a statement
of company values, what the company expects from an employee
and what the employee can expect from TI. From the TI Commitment:
"TIers expect the highest levels of performance and integrity
from ourselves and each other. We will create an environment
where people are valued as individuals and team members and
treated with respect, dignity and fairness. We strive to create
opportunities for TIers to develop and reach full development
and to achieve our professional and personal goals."

The Values and Ethics of TI
The TI ethics booklet has been in publication for over 40
years and is presently in its sixth revision. In 1961, TI's
founders felt that the company was getting too large and the
marketplace too complex to have ethical standards passing
simply by word of mouth. It was time to put these standards
in writing, so the first version was published. It has been
revised appropriately due to expanding world markets, marketplace
complexities, changing government regulations, and business
growth and modifications. This booklet is available in 11
languages, and every TI employee has been given a copy.
The TI ethics booklet stresses the importance of and the
expectations for the highest ethical business behavior as
well as the benefit of an excellent ethical reputation.
There are other directives, guidelines, training curriculum,
traditions and customs that align our business activities
to our ethical standards, but they are generally derived directly
from the main three sets of documents described above.
