Boy with a video cameraOur technology is solving customers' problems so they can make electronics that make the world greener, healthier, smarter, safer and more fun.

We believe that a key to sustainability is to take the burden off the consumer and put it on the machine. TI produces power management devices and microcontrollers that reduce energy consumption in electronics, industrial equipment appliances, PCs and automobiles and enable smarter homes/buildings. We are working on ways to harness untapped power such as wind, solar, kinetic energy and even body heat.

TI technology also enables medical innovation. We believe that electronics innovation can redefine health care, taking us beyond chemistry, human analysis and traditional hospital visits. This includes TI technology that enables mobile systems to bring quality care to patients, remove disabilities and achieve greater patient comfort and convenience. This is made possible through equipment such as ultrasound, glucometer, video stethoscope, retinal implants, home monitoring equipment, smart pills and implantable devices.

These and many other TI technologies are helping customers achieve great things:

Cell phone and laptop efficiency

More than half of the world's cell phones and three-fourths of all laptop computers use TI technology that helps save power and extend battery life.

Mobile and wireless communications

Our leading technology in high-quality mobile and wireless communications is changing the way we work by making telecommuting and teleconferencing a viable alternative to transportation that contributes to climate change. TI technology also enables more efficient and accurate instrumentation (such as lab equipment) to precisely collect and analyze data on phenomena like climate change.

Automobile safety and efficiency

Cars are more fuel-efficient, cleaner and safer thanks to chip-controlled technology from TI:

  • In tire-pressure monitoring systems, our controllers reduce braking distances and the risk of accidents caused by flawed or under-inflated tires. Properly inflated tires also improve fuel efficiency up to 10 percent.
  • Digital controllers reduce engine drag and increase efficiency by eliminating the hydraulic pump in power-steering systems.

Electric motor efficiency

Washing machineRoughly two-thirds of the world's electricity powers motors. TI chips decrease motor energy consumption up to 60 percent by enabling variable-speed drives. Aside from the tremendous energy savings, the motor drives result in extended product life and improved reliability.

Data centers and desktop computer efficiency

Advances in TI chip technology decrease power consumption by data centers, desktop computers and monitors.

Automatic identification

TI's radio frequency identification device (RFID) technologyOnce known primarily as a supply chain logistical tool for retailers, government agencies and shippers, TI's radio frequency identification device (RFID) technology is slipping into a variety of applications in places like gyms, curbside recycling bins, airport luggage tags and credit cards.

For example, TI-RFid™ identification devices improve efficiency and reduce vehicle emissions for Wal-Mart by helping the company maintain accurate inventories. This alleviates unnecessary truck deliveries as well as the number of trips customers make to the store for items that would have otherwise been out of stock during their initial visit.

HDTV efficiency

Power supply controllers help high-definition televisions (HDTVs) and other electronics achieve energy-efficiency levels as high as 90 percent.

Electronics energy conservation

Ti technology is enabling greater performance in power management. Our microcontrollers also address efficiency by reducing energy loss in standby mode. It is estimated that 5 percent of the electricity used by U.S. homes goes to objects that absorb and lose energy in standby mode. That estimate jumps to 12 percent in Japan. TI technology is helping reduce this type of energy waste. Some of our products today consume as little as 500 nanoamps of current in standby mode, which is less than the electricity loss from a watch battery.

Education technology

Graphing calculators shown with the TI-Navigator™TI's innovative technology also reaches into classrooms and is revolutionizing the way mathematics and science are taught and learned. Technologies like the TI-Navigator™ classroom learning system, in tandem with TI's graphing calculators, enable teachers to gauge students' understanding of math concepts in the classroom in real time.

Entertainment

Our technology is contained in many entertainment systems, bringing enjoyment through the enhanced quality found in automobile racing systems, digital cameras, MP3 players, video players, Slingboxes, video games and even digital cinema.
