Corporate Citizenship Report

Overview

TI Founder Cecil Green underscored TI's people philosophy when he said, "Getting ahead depends not on working people, but on working with people."

In that spirit, TI leadership pays close attention to the safety, health and well-being of our valued workforce globally. We believe that a collaborative and inclusive work environment, complemented with targeted training and development, inspires innovation. This approach is integral to our long-term success as a company and applies to employees of all ethnicities, ages, genders, religious beliefs and sexual orientation.

During 2009, TI made significant employee reductions both through voluntary and involuntary actions. Management and human resources were dedicated to advancing TI values during this difficult macroeconomic downturn.

Impacted employees were treated with respect and dignity. Competitive transition benefits were provided to assist employees through the experience, including severance payments, early retirement programs, health benefits and outplacement consulting services, as well as continuing education. In addition, the training and development TI employees received during their employment helped them compare favorably to individuals similarly impacted by actions at other employers.

TI leaders take seriously their responsibilities as stewards of the TI culture, workplace and brand. Our executives serve as role models among employees and in the communities where we operate. TI leaders not only set the direction and pace for company activities, but also the well-being and success of our workforce. They are accountable for providing employees with targeted development opportunities and helping build the next generation of leaders.

In addition to company leadership, TI sets the pace for a safe and respectful working environment through regular training and established guidelines, including TI’s code of business conduct and business practices statement . We adhere to these internally established operating principles over internationally recognized voluntary standards.

We believe that the basic intent of various labor- and sustainability-related compacts is similar to TI’s own standards. International voluntary codes for labor practices, among other issues, provide a useful reference point for companies to evaluate their own conduct and standards. Although we value corporate social and environmental responsibility, we do not advocate any exclusive set of standards over another. Our history and experience in this area have helped shape a firm foundation of values and ethics standards that cover the same broad concerns addressed by these evolving codes.

TI is recognized internationally for its commitment to maintaining a safe, respectful and inclusive work environment. We receive numerous awards related to this commitment. In 2009, TI was named one of the “100 Best Companies to Work For” for the ninth consecutive year by Fortune magazine. Working Mother Magazine chose TI as one of the “100 Best Companies for Working Mothers” for the 14th consecutive year. And we received a 100 percent score on the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s Corporate Equality Index, which listed TI among the “Best Places to Work for GLBT Equality.”
