TI employee CH Chen has given hundreds of people in Melaka the first aid knowledge and skills they need to serve their communities and save lives.
As a qualified first aid trainer, TI employee Ching Huei "CH" Chen has given hundreds of people in Melaka, Malaysia, the first aid knowledge and skills they need to serve their communities and save lives.
He also plans activities and provides training that motivates people to volunteer.
CH is an active volunteer in St. John Ambulance Malaysia, a nonprofit organization that provides first aid and community services to the public. The volunteer services provided include first aid standby support during public events and non-emergency ambulance service. Volunteers also assist in the hospital's emergency department during the festival season and provide first aid training to members and the public.
"I believe this is a very important volunteer service," CH said. "I am committed to making sure that the people who I have trained are knowledgeable and ready to help others during a
time of crisis and during festival season, when many
emergency situations arise."
"I have obtained life-saving knowledge and experience in handling real-life cases. From the planning and administration, volunteering has helped me to build up my leadership, project management and administration skills."
— CH Chen
As an Honorable Secretary at the state level, CH plans the activities and training that improve the quality of the volunteers' skills and knowledge. These activities also motivate people to serve the public as community volunteers.
CH supports annual projects such as blood donation campaigns and mass CPR training for the public. He also focuses public awareness on the importance of having first aid knowledge and skills.
In 2012, St. John Ambulance Malaysia's Commander-in-Chief awarded CH with the "Excellent Service Medal" in recognition of his outstanding volunteer service.
