Corporate Citizenship Report

2010 performance

Looking ahead

TI and the TI Foundation continued investing aggressively through philanthropy programs – $16.6 million awarded in 2010 – to develop science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) teachers and support related student programs to increase the number of graduates entering the technology workforce. TI also gave $1.15 million in in-kind donations to education-related institutions and programs in 2010.

Our programs are designed to reach thousands of students, teachers and policymakers to generate interest in and funding for STEM research and innovation. We achieve this by purchasing technology for classrooms, providing academic enrichment opportunities, awarding scholarships, sponsoring math and science fairs and competitions, and recognizing educator excellence.

Highlights of the year included:
  • Granting $250,000 to Uplift, a K-8 Dallas-area charter school designed to deliver a rigorous scientific curriculum and inspire a passion for science at an early age.
  • Achieving enrollment milestones in the UTeach and Teach for America programs. Teacher and student participation in these initiatives have surpassed expectations, and universities have built awareness of the importance of being a STEM educator. As a result, the programs are meeting their goals faster.
  • Hosting the TI India Education Innovation Forum. This brought together government officials, academics, TI customers and TI business managers to help support learning opportunities for 200 million schoolchildren in India.
  • Taking top honors at the Richardson Independent School District Excellence in Education Foundation’s annual Evening of Honors, which awarded TI and the TI Foundation with its 2009-10 Excellence in Education Leadership Award and Spirit of RISD Award.
  • Signing a memorandum of understanding with local education officials in one of the poorest counties in China, Nanbu County, to install multimedia classrooms in 30 schools and libraries in 20 schools.
See the Giving section of this report for more information on total TI and TI Foundation education grants and gifts-in-kind, as well as new education initiatives supported in 2010.

Looking ahead

In 2011, TI plans to continue supporting and strengthening our existing student achievement and teacher effectiveness programs. We will continue efforts to help grow education programs that address the needs and challenges of our worldwide communities.
