TI continued making a significant community impact in 2008 by donating $18.8 million from corporate funds to support numerous agencies, programs and charities. Of that amount, $8 million was earmarked to support the TI Foundation, which paid $7.8 million in grants and matching gifts by year-end.
TI also made significant in-kind donations, including televisions that use TI DLP® technology for a neighborhood school and other organizations; TI graphing calculator donations to Jerry R. Junkins National Merit Scholars; and an in-kind gift of analog ICs to the FIRST Robotics competition.
In 2009, TI plans to evaluate how we can broaden our global giving by sharing corporate and TI Foundation philanthropy process models with our India and China locations. TI will also work to maintain employee participation in United Way at the 2008 level.
In addition, TI plans to continue improving our measurement tools to better determine whether contributions are producing the desired results for both our company and the programs we support.
Finally, we will continue examining our current giving strategy to assess its impact and determine if new or refined areas of focus are necessary. We are also working to increase volunteerism among employees and retirees as a way we can give back during the economic downturn.
