Community Involvement Team
TI’s community involvement team, comprising representatives from our various diversity initiatives, has worked for more than a decade to build and sustain community programs that improve the quality of life in the greater Dallas area. TI allocates funding each year to participating initiatives so that these employees can support organizations they care most about.
In 2011, some organizations the team supported included:
- The AIDS Interfaith Network, which serves almost 2,000 low-income persons living with HIV/AIDS. Funds helped support and grow its volunteer program.
- The Still I Rise-STEM seminar, which is associated with the Connect a Million Minds initiative. The program hosted more than 100 students, who were introduced to science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) careers.
- Junior Players, which hosts summer theater camps for thousands of low-income children and teenagers in North Texas. TI sponsored more than 50 camps that benefited more than 1,250 children.
- The Mi Escuelita Preschool, which teaches English to children from all cultures and prepares them for academic success. TI purchased bandages, ice packs and toothbrushes to help meet the needs of 400 students.
- The Greater Dallas Arya Samaj Cancer Clinic, which cared for more than 150 patients during more than 500 outpatient visits. It also held a mammogram- and colorectal-screening health fair.
- The Dallas Youth Volunteer Association, which provides area high school students volunteer opportunities to give back to the community and build leadership skills. TI organized and sponsored about 22 events that reached more than 300 students.
- The Association of Chinese Professionals Foundation, which promotes local development and unity within the Chinese community. TI supported its annual Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival Performing Arts Show, where the Chinese community celebrates its cultural heritage and strengthens ties. More than 1,500 people attend each year.
The Chinese Institute of Engineers Dallas-Fort Worth chapter, which serves more than 3,500 youth with programs focused on engineering, speaking and math. TI supported these educational programs in addition to technical seminars and a leadership assessment and mentoring program for professionals.
