2008 performance
TI continues making excellent progress toward fulfilling our diversity vision. Although the journey is not complete, our accomplishments serve as catalysts to further drive diversity and an inclusive environment within the company. As of year-end 2008:
- Thirty-six percent of U.S. TI officers were women or people of color.
- Four of our 11 board members were women; one was a person of color.
- Of the direct global management reports to the CEO, 36 percent were women or people of color.
In 2009, TI will continue working to attract more women into our global work force. While 26.5 percent of our overall hiring was women in 2008, up slightly from 2007, we want to recruit more. We increased our representation of women on our U.S. technical staff from the prior year; two of our TI Fellows and one Senior Fellow are women. In addition, 27 percent of our officers are women and four board members are as well.
Another key accomplishment for the year was expanding TI's equal employment opportunity policy to not only include sexual orientation and gender, but also include gender expression and gender identity. As a result of this and other related initiatives, the Human Rights Campaign Foundation – the educational arm of the nation's largest advocacy group for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) Americans – notified TI that we received the highest score (100 percent) on the Corporate Equality Index. The Index rates businesses on their treatment of LGBT employees, consumers and investors.
Also during the year, Out & Equal Workplace Advocates named the TI Pride Network a finalist for its "Employee Resource Group" award. The organization champions safe and equitable workplaces for LGBT people, and building and strengthening successful organizations that value all employees, customers and communities.
Additional diversity-related accolades TI received during the year included:
- Making our third consecutive appearance on the National Association for Female Executives' list of the "Top 30 Companies for Executive Women."
- Being included on Hispanic Business' list of "2008 Diversity Elite."
- Joining the IEEE Women in Engineering magazine's inaugural list of the "Top 10 Best Companies for Women to Work."
- Continuing for the 13th year on Working Mother magazine's list of "100 Best Companies for Working Mothers."
- Being honored by the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), the world's largest black engineering organization, for our corporate diversity leadership.
