TI took this year to extensively analyze the effectiveness of our wellness programs. We identified numerous opportunities to strengthen and enhance their delivery. We also identified additional online tools to expand our global reach.
Our company participated, along with other members of the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA), in a comprehensive, five-year study to assess potential cancer risks of those working in wafer fab clean rooms. After studying more than 100,000 workers, the researchers found no association between this work environment and overall cancer mortality.
TI has long been recognized as one of the safest semiconductor companies in the industry, and we fully support the SIA’s commitment to help ensure the safety and health of the industry’s workforce.
Additional highlights for the year included:
Completing wellness assessments for more than 15,000 employees and their spouses. We found more were increasingly aware of their blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose and triglyceride levels. However, we were disappointed to learn there was little to no improvement in the self-reported health status of employees over the last five years.
Offering localized wellness programs to meet the needs of particular sites.
Providing online courses on weight control and parenting through webinars, expanding their reach.
Continuing a variety of health, wellness and work-life programs at no extra cost (beyond materials) to employees.
Complying with new legislation that makes nursing rooms available to new mothers after they return to work.
Seeing TI’s track and field team capture its 11th consecutive national title at the U.S. Corporate Athletic Association Corporate Cup Championship.
Winning the Corporate Challenge, an Olympic-style competition among area companies, for the fifth consecutive year. Thirty-two men and 20 women competed from TI this year, raising more than $1,700 for Special Olympics.
Looking ahead
Although getting employees to eat healthier foods, exercise regularly, reduce stress, and maintain their blood sugar can be a challenge, TI plans to offer more targeted programs at various locations in 2011.
