2009 performance

TI maintains one of the best safety rates among U.S. Semiconductor Industry Association members. We continue to work toward our long-term goal of zero work-related injuries and illnesses. Our ongoing efforts include continually assessing risks and taking preventive action.

TI’s rate of 0.19 on-the-job recordable injuries per 100 employees in 2009 exceeded the 2008 rate of 0.21 by 10 percent. Additionally, TI had zero fatalities in 2009, as well as zero reported incidents of non-compliance with regulations and voluntary codes concerning health and safety impacts of our products and services. In 2010, we will work to meet a recordable goal of 0.20 or less.

Our lost/restricted day cases (L/RDC) rate, which involves restricted time or time away from work, increased to 0.10 from 0.07 in 2008. Although comparable to past years of good performance, this fell short of our goal of 0.08. We will continue to work toward this goal in 2010.

Our ergonomic injury rates, which encompass musculoskeletal disorders, accounted for about 20.8 percent of recordable and 32.1 percent of L/RDC rates in 2009. Recordable ergonomics-related injuries at TI have decreased by 91 percent from 1999 to 2009; days away/restricted/transferred ergonomics-related injuries have decreased by 88 percent.
