Management systems

TI’s occupational health and safety management system is critical in helping us reduce or eliminate any risk that could result in personal injury, illness or property damage. Through it, we can record accurate performance data; quickly identify trends, weaknesses and hazards; and take steps to remedy them. Site managers and environmental, safety and health (ESH) committees oversee these systems, meeting regularly to set direction and communicate the importance of working safely across their sites.

Our comprehensive ESH policies and principles set a high standard for performance and are endorsed at the highest levels of our company. TI also adheres to internationally recognized standards developed by the International Standardization Organization (ISO) (14001 for environmental management systems), the European Union Environmental Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) and the Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series (OHSAS) (18001 for health and safety management) to meet ESH goals. Our business units rely on these standards to meet regional requirements and marketplace expectations.

At the end of 2010, 13 of our 17 manufacturing sites were OHSAS 18001- and ISO 14001-certified or recommended for certification, and all were operating under TI-equivalent management systems. Our newest facilities in Richardson, Texas, and Clark, Philippines, and the two acquired in Japan and China in 2010, are not yet certified. We plan to certify TI Clark in 2011 and the remaining manufacturing sites in early 2012.

Company leaders monitor compliance with these and other standards through site-level external audits, which are reported to our board of directors.
