In 2008, FORTUNE magazine included TI on its "100 Best Companies to Work For" list for the ninth time. TI was also recognized in Working Mother magazine's "100 Best Companies for Working Mothers" list for the 13th consecutive year. We have been able to reach these milestones by responding to issues that matter to our work force most.
Corporate concierge
To make our busy employees' lives easier, TI offers concierge service at our U.S sites. At no charge, concierges help employees with a wide variety of activities, from securing concert tickets to coordinating travel, from shopping for gifts to planning parties to finding pet care. In 2008, the concierges served more than 2,500 employees and fulfilled nearly 8,700 requests.
Maternity, paternity and adoption support
Parents need time to adjust when a new child comes into the home. TI offers birth mothers eight weeks of paid maternity leave in the U.S. and supports breastfeeding mothers when they return to work by providing several private pumping rooms and medical-grade breast pumps at most of our American offices.
New fathers and adoptive parents receive two weeks of paid leave as well. In addition, TI reimburses adoptive parents up to $4,000 to cover adoption-related agency and legal fees, court costs and transportation expenses. In 2008, 16 U.S. employees used our adoption benefits, 404 employees used the paid paternity/adoption leave, and more than 106 women used our maternity leave.
TI offers maternity and paternity leave options, as well as child care and other parenting support outside of the U.S. as well.
Eldercare and child care services
The peace of mind that comes with quality and dependable elder care and child care is invaluable. That's why TI offers free elder care and child care referral services in the U.S.
Employees can turn to a global online referral service called LifeWorks to find a senior caregiver, child care center, home health care aides, cleaning service or to help with a range of other issues, from parenting to legal advice. In 2008, more than 5,000 TI employees took advantage of LifeWorks resource and referral services.
Childcare discounts
Child care costs are significant for working parents. So TI contracts with local and national child care providers to give discounted rates to our U.S. employees.
Parenting classes
Parenting is challenging. That's why TI offers U.S. employees free seminars by Practical Parent Education, widely recognized for its outstanding parenting curriculum. Topics range widely, including subjects such as chores and allowances, managing different personality styles and spirituality.
College coach
To help parents prepare their children for college, TI offers free seminars that address saving, paying for and choosing the right college, as well as managing the college admissions process. Seminar leaders also offer customized advice to U.S. employees.
TI summer camp
The summer school break makes it difficult for working parents to balance family responsibilities with work. So at several of our U.S. locations, TI offers a summer activity program for children of employees and contractors. The state-licensed summer camp includes American Red Cross swim lessons, sports and fitness classes, arts and culture, education, and weekly field trips.
