In 2008, TI and Matros Technologies received national acclaim for their development and installation of an innovative clean air technology that reduces VOC emissions from semiconductor manufacturing processes. TI was among 11 companies that received the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) eighth annual Clean Air Excellence Award for outstanding accomplishments in improving air quality and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Additionally, TI and Matros Technologies won an Environmental Excellence Award from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
The Dallas/Fort Worth region began requiring local businesses to adhere to new emissions standards that further reduce NOx in 2008. TI complied by shutting down some of our older boilers and turbines and replacing them with new steam-generating systems. These systems have not only reduced overall energy consumption but eliminated NOx emissions entirely from manufacturing.
In addition, TI's CFC refrigerant leak rate fell to 2.1 percent in 2008 from 3.5 percent in 2007. Total CFC refrigerant usage fell by 49 percent from 2007.
