Hazardous air pollutants | Toxics Release Inventory

TI monitors and reports additional emissions, including hazardous air pollutants.

Hazardous air pollutants

Hazardous air pollutants (HAPs), also called toxic air pollutants, are 187 pollutants identified by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The EPA works with state, local and tribal governments to reduce the release of HAPs to the environment. In the U.S., TI controls and helps reduce HAP emissions by:
  • Capping the emissions for HAPs below the EPA regulatory thresholds at each U.S. site.
  • Carefully screening new uses through an environmental specialist at each site to ensure that the emissions cap will not be exceeded.
We report some U.S. HAPs emissions to the EPA in our Toxics Release Inventory annually. We do not report all HAPs emissions because we are not a major source for HAPs and are not required to report to the EPA.

Toxics Release Inventory

TI submits U.S. air-quality metrics each July to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Toxics Release Inventory (TRI), a comprehensive database that monitors the release of more than 650 chemicals and chemical categories from various industries.

For easy reference, we have made our TRI information available through this report. Please note that emissions data are due to the TRI on July 1 each year. Therefore, TI's 2011 emissions accounting won't be submitted until July 1, 2012.
