Report scope and boundary

PRO3.5 Process for defining report content The direction and scope of this report was determined by TI's Citizenship Strategy Team and stakeholders' input.

In addition, we used the Global Reporting Initiative's Sustainability Reporting Framework (G3 Guidelines) when crafting the report.
PRO3.6 Boundary of the report The scope of this report is based on the performance of TI and its worldwide subsidiaries unless stated otherwise.
PRO3.7 Specific limitations on the scope or boundary of the report TI's 2010 Annual Report and Citizenship Report provide a comprehensive overview of the company's economic, environmental and social performance for fiscal year 2010. There are, however, a few GRI indicators that have not been or cannot be addressed. These are noted in the GRI index, including, where applicable, explanations for the omission of data.
PRO3.8 Basis for reporting on entities that can significantly affect comparability from period to period The report does not include data on partially-owned subsidiaries, joint ventures, or outsourced operations with the following exceptions: energy consumption data from the large gas plant that serves our North Campus in Dallas is included in our overall energy consumption figures. This plant is owned and operated by another company and the gas is sold to Texas Instruments for use in our manufacturing operations.
PRO3.9 Data measurement techniques and the bases of calculations
Detailed information is included in the notes of each data-driven graphic, located in the performance sections of the report.
PRO3.10 Effect of any re-statements of information provided in earlier reports and the reasons for such re-statement
Any restated information, due to improved data collection and measurement methods or otherwise, is noted in applicable sections of the report.
PRO3.11 Significant changes from previous reporting periods in the scope, boundary or measurement methods applied in the report

For the first time, we have included normalized performance data for energy and water use, waste, and GHG emissions. These metrics use TI’s annual chip production as the denominator and company-wide environmental metrics as the numerator.

In addition, all environmental performance data includes, unless otherwise noted, performance information from a new site in Richardson, Texas, as well as two acquired sites. The acquisition data only accounts for three months of operations in Chengdu, China and four months in Aizu, Japan.

Also, energy use data from a third party gas plant serving our North Campus in Dallas is now included in our energy consumption data (for all reported years).

Assurance

PRO3.13 Policy and current practice with regard to seeking independent assurance for the report.
We will not seek independent assurance at this time while we continue to focus efforts on addressing issues of key concern to stakeholders in this report.
