Since 2001, TI has informed employees and promoted alternatives to single-occupant commuting in gas-guzzling vehicles. The annual "Commute Solutions" campaign runs from May through September during ozone season and has sought to reduce emissions and related problems that contribute to pollution and improve quality of life for TI communities.
Last year on TI's first globally recognized "Bike to Work Day," employees worldwide cycled nearly 1,300 miles. This year, participation increased significantly with 185 employees worldwide cycling a total of 3,280 miles, helping to reduce ground-level ozone and air pollution. Cyclists who participated in the 2010 Bike to Work Day, eliminated more than 3,300 pounds of equivalent carbon dioxide emissions from the atmosphere by riding their bikes.
Besides the benefits of improved air quality, cycling to work helps decrease stress, reduces wear and tear on personal vehicles, eases traffic congestion as well as boosts pocketbooks with less spending at the gas pump.
