The five winning teams from the Texas Instruments Science & Technology Quiz regional rounds competed in the national event in Bangalore, India.

Inspiring young minds is the mission of the Texas Instruments Science & Technology Quiz in India. This contest carries forward a rich tradition of innovation that has been a hallmark of the company since its founding in the U.S. and throughout 25 years of operating in India.

The Texas Instruments Science & Technology Quiz, started in 2003 in Bangalore, is an extension of TI India’s commitment to identify and promote the best scientific talent in the country. This annual event provides a unique platform for high school students to test their skills of inquiry and quick thinking.

This year, Sri Kumaran’s School (ICSE) in Bangalore, India won the 8th annual quiz. A team of 10 students from the school emerged national winners for the second year in a row after facing stiff competition from four other regional team winners. More than 1,000 students participated, making it one of the most popular student science quizzes in India.

“It is really important to inculcate the interest to take up science as a subject of study at the secondary school level,” said Dr. Biswadip (Bobby) Mitra, president and managing director, TI India. “Through the TI Science & Technology Quiz, which is conducted in five cities around India, we have been endeavoring to create this interest through creative and interactive means. I am happy that this event has become quite popular across the country and that the standard of competition has been increasing every year.”

The first three editions of the quiz were held in Bangalore, and attracted participation from more than 200 schools in the region. Organizers expect 400 schools and more than 2,500 students will participate this fall.

“This is our initiative towards instilling a scientific spirit among high school students in the country, and bringing out the latent talent of scientific invention in them,” said Sylvia Subbaiah, head of the TI India Foundation. “The presence of mind, intelligence and scientific thinking displayed by the students this year was amazing and beyond their age. These are the innovators of the future.”

Regional and national winners are awarded prizes, such as digital cameras, MP3 players, notebook computers and TI scientific calculators.
