Following the devastating earthquakes and tsunami in Japan, TI and the Texas Instruments Foundation initiated support of American Red Cross (ARC) relief efforts.
The TI Foundation made a $100,000 donation initially and will match all TI employee and retiree donations made to the ARC Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami Fund through May 15. TI set up a microsite to make online donations easy to track and match.
"We were able to act quickly to provide an effective way for compassionate TI employees and retirees around the world to give and support the relief efforts,” said Trisha Cunningham, TI chief citizenship officer. “Our hearts go out to the families and communities in Japan.”
In the two weeks that followed the earthquake, TI employees and retirees have already contributed more than $210,000.
"We thank our employees and retirees around the globe for their willingness to contribute to help the people of Japan so quickly and generously. This outpouring of support speaks volumes about the character of our people," Cunningham said.
TI employees worldwide have rallied to the aid of colleagues in the affected areas, donating money, sending food, water and supplies, volunteering to support recovery efforts and planning fundraising events.
TI’s Miho and Aizu sites and its Tokyo offices were affected by the initial magnitude 8.9 earthquake. Although employees at these sites were evacuated, no injuries were reported. A fourth TI site in Hiji was not affected.
TI has about 2,100 employees in Japan, about 7 percent of the company’s worldwide employment.
