TI's fab in Greenock, Scotland, asked employees to “think pink” in October to raise money for the Breakthrough Breast Cancer organization.
The event was organized by the site's Healthy Working Lives Team as part of an annual nationwide day of fund raising for the charity in the United Kingdom. "Wear it Pink" also plays an important part in raising awareness of breast cancer.
The site raised £1,300, and TI will match the funds for a total of £2,600 (more than $4,100) donated to the Breakthrough Breast Cancer group.
The "Wear it Pink" day not only encouraged employees to wear pink to work, it also featured a bake sale, raffle and silent auction during the lunch hour. Students from the local beauty college also were on hand offering employees manicures and arm and hand massages.
George Robertson, a TI engineer, provided a party atmosphere by serving as DJ throughout lunch and raising money by taking requests at £1 a song. TI employee Tam McLaughlin also helped raise funds by making and selling balloon shapes.
Everyone else got into the spirit by wearing pink on that day.
