TI ranks 48 on Newsweek Magazine's 2012 U.S. Green Ranking list.

TI moved up to 48 on Newsweek Magazine's 2012 U.S. Green Ranking list, an improvement over 81 in 2011.

Among global companies, TI ranked 105, up from 163. The Green Ranking is the fourth annual evaluation of the environmental performance of America's 500 largest publicly traded companies and 500 largest companies internationally.

The best performing industries topping the 2012 U.S. and Global lists are technology and finance. Many technology companies successfully increased their scores over 2011.

TI attributes its overall improvement to its conscientious approach to global environmental management, including programs, policies and goals, and transparency about the company's related performance.

"This improvement is just further validation of our company's focus on chemical stewardship as well as water and energy conservation," said Patrice Tompkins-Everidge, TI's Worldwide Environmental, Safety & Health (ESH) manager.

Patrice said improving TI's environmental performance not only benefits neighboring communities but also improves operational efficiency and saves TI money.

The Newsweek rankings are based on the total green score of each company, which is determined by performance in three key areas: environmental impact, environmental management and disclosure.

"We should be proud to be ranked among the top performing companies in the world," said Lara Hussain, TI Sustainability Stakeholder Relations.

"We can learn from what we've accomplished so far and what other companies on the list have achieved. Most important, it encourages us to do more."

A few of TI's environmental performance achievements in 2011 include:

  • Implemented 134 energy-efficiency and water conservation projects that saved $8.6 million in utility costs.
  • Recycled 1.5 billion gallons of water and 92 percent of waste.
  • Developed a new supplier environmental and social responsibility policy that requires critical alignment of TI's expectations for ethics, labor practices and environmental controls.
