TI welcomed Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal for a visit recently to its semiconductor fabrication plant and design center in Greenock, Scotland.
During the visit, Princess Anne enjoyed a tour of the site and met with employees. Her Royal Highness unveiled a special plaque to commemorate the visit and also made presentations to TI's Community Care Team in recognition of their work in the local community. This was the first royal visit for the factory.
"TI has a long history of investing in our local communities, and we are proud of the work our employees are doing to support education and welfare in the Greenock area," said Jean- François Fau, TI's president of TI Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMEA).
"I'm pleased Her Royal Highness had an opportunity to visit our Greenock site and recognize those who are making such a contribution to the Inverclyde area."
The site's Community Care team, made up of nine employees, has raised more than £155,000 for local charities in the Inverclyde area of Scotland. The employees were recognized in early 2012 with the TI Founders Award, for their dedication to supporting the local community, especially in the areas of education, health and wellness.
"The visit by Her Royal Highness provided a great opportunity to showcase our operations and, more important, the world-class team we have here in Greenock," said Gerry McCarthy, the TI fab's manager.
"Our employees are passionate about supporting our neighbors in the greater Inverclyde area, and I'm extremely proud of TI's continued commitment to our communities."
The Greenock site, formerly National Semiconductor (UK) Ltd, joined TI in September 2011 as part of the acquisition of National Semiconductor.
The site includes a 150 and 200 millimeter wafer fab, as well as a design center where Analog chips are developed.
Since the acquisition, Texas Instruments (UK) Limited has continued its investment in the local community, with a focus on STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) education.
In fact, TI committed £142,400 to Inverclyde Education Services through its Power of STEM Education initiative, to be given over the next three years.
