TI has a long history of supporting the local communities where the company operates, with one of the main ways being through United Way. Each year, TI employees give their money and time to help people in need and share in a tradition of giving that was started by the company's founders.
This year, TI has increased its involvement with TI Chairman, President and CEO Rich Templeton serving as United Way of Metropolitan Dallas (UWMD) 2012-2013 citywide campaign chair.
"Traditionally, we just have the excitement of the TI campaign, but this year TI has stepped up to lead the citywide campaign in Dallas," Templeton said.
"I'm proud of TI's deeply ingrained spirit of giving and the generosity of TI employees who continue to give their time and money to make our local communities a great place for everyone to live."
'Solving problems proactively'
In a video for TI employees launching the 2012 United Way campaign Templeton explains why he believes United Way has such a powerful impact and consistently brings meaningful results to people in communities nationwide.
"United Way has a great umbrella of education, income and health programs that work to solve problems proactively," Templeton said.
"A couple of years ago, United Way opened its competitive grants process to any nonprofit that can help meet the long-term goals of these programs. We've already seen a greater impact than we've seen traditionally, as agencies work together and focus on solving social issues."
In 2010, United Way initiated a 10-year program in the U.S. designed to achieve several measurable goals in education, income and health. United Way's national goals correlate with community goals set locally.
Campaign support
TI has been the largest aggregate donor to UWMD since one of the company's founders helped start the local United Way in 1961. Many other TI sites, including Tucson, Ariz.; Stafford, Texas; Manchester, N.H.; San Diego and Sherman, Texas, run strong campaigns that are recognized by those communities.
This year, new United Way campaigns are being launched in Austin, Texas; Germantown, Md.; Grass Valley and Santa Clara, Calif.; and South Portland, Maine.
In 2011, the combination of TI employees, retirees and the TI Foundation gave a combined $4.9 million to benefit United Way. Nearly 5,600 employees across the U.S., including 350 new donors, contributed $2.8 million, representing a year-over-year increase in participants and contributions.
In North Texas, almost 48 percent of TI employees gave $2.4 million to UWMD. These gifts, combined with a TI Foundation grant, resulted in $4.1 million for UWMD.
TI employees across the country not only provide financial support but also volunteer their time and expertise to positively impact their communities and help TI accomplish a successful campaign.
