Supplier stewardship
Responsible manufacturing extends beyond our fabrication plants. We partner with suppliers who are equally committed to a safe and healthy workplace and environmentally responsible operations.
We recognize our responsibility to hold suppliers to high levels of environmental, safety and health performance. TI actively engages our suppliers as trusted partners in our efforts to improve efficiencies, reduce commodity use, and decrease potential environmental, safety and health (ESH) risks and impacts.
Although we do not currently perform formal supplier corporate citizenship audits, we do have policies and expectations in place that a majority of suppliers must meet in this area, including the TI Supplier Quality Expectation Document and our open letter to suppliers. Additionally, TI screens and monitors both raw materials and manufacturing suppliers by:
- Evaluating their environmental, health and safety (ESH) performance.
- Examining ESH policies they have in place.
- Monitoring their compliance with TI standards, with EU's RoHS restrictions, and with other regulatory and customer requirements through an annual certification process.
- Offering proof-of-compliance analytical data for six RoHS-banned substances to customers who want more than certification as proof.
TI, as a supplier, also goes to great lengths to provide our customers the kind of information and transparency we expect from our suppliers. Our external Eco-Info and Lead (Pb)-Free Web site and product content database allows customers to view the materials contained within our products.
2008 Performance
In 2008, we developed a method to assess our suppliers' social responsibility performance as part of our comprehensive screening process. We plan to integrate this new information and data as soon as internal resources are available.
In 2008, we also recognized 13 organizations by awarding the TI Supplier Excellence Award. These suppliers, who were selected from more than 14,000 companies worldwide, were evaluated across several criteria, including cost, environmental responsibility, technology, responsiveness, assurance of supply and quality. In 2009, TI plans to continue progress in our supply-chain management program to further corporate citizenship requirements.
