Innovation
Gene F.
Engineering change in signal processing
As TI’s Principal Fellow, Gene embodies TI’s innovative sprit. Often referred to as a “serial innovator,” Gene is constantly scavenging for the next big breakthrough in digital signal processing.
Even after nearly four decades at TI, Gene continually emits the energy of an innovator. He is neither afraid to take chances nor hesitant to express exactly what is on his mind. To him, the opportunities for technology are endless – not to mention fun.
It’s all about coming up with a problem that hadn’t even been discovered yet and then solving it.
Gene has had a hand in developing not only Speak & Spell but also many other speech-related products at TI. You could say he is highly familiar with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Forty-five patents in memories, speech, consumer products and digital signal processing are just some of his accomplishments.
If you come across Gene, it’s hard not to be captured by his gregarious nature and his wit. He continues to inspire a new generation of innovators as he works with TI’s University Program. Traveling all over the world, he shares his insight with students and looks for the so-called “crazies” in the audience who are on the brink of innovation.
Today Gene is helping identify new opportunities for the company’s digital signal-processing technology. No matter what time of day it is, one thing is certain: He never stops trying to make the impossible possible.
"Creativity is asking the question for which there is no answer. Innovation is answering that question." |
