Engineering change in power management

Jean P. knows one thing for sure – that TI will play a big part in uncovering new methods of energy efficiency in the future. His team plays a major role in leading power initiatives at the company, including providing high integration Power-over Ethernet (PoE) solutions and efficient designs for the power supplies in powered devices (PDs). As a systems engineer in the Power Interface Group, Jean is exploring innovative ways to support customers with PoE PD applications by providing complete solutions like detailed transformer manufacturing steps for PD reference designs.

Jean’s biggest inspiration comes from the desire to change things for the better. For him, this includes solving problems with new and better approaches, and providing simpler and more integrated solutions for TI’s customers.

You won’t get Jean to admit to his favorite endeavor, but he does say some of his most rewarding experiences have come from collaborating with industry groups, such as the USB Power Delivery committee and the USB Battery Charger committee that directly affected TI’s TPS254x USB charging port power switch and controller projects. He revels in the development of innovative products that influence industry specifications and has taken part in a number of TI Power Supply Design Seminars. He is currently exploring advancements for various new high-power PoE markets, and is involved in the definition of next-generation power sourcing equipment (PSE) controllers and PD interface + DC-DC controllers.

Jean admits that there are still other areas in power management that he would like to explore. He is intrigued by energy management systems that involve power designs and relate to lighting or the solar market. In fact, Jean is always on the hunt for any project that involves strong technical content and a good knowledge of end-customer markets.
