Innovation
Darnell M.
Engineering change in video analytics
According to Darnell, innovation in developing new algorithms is opening up an endless array of applications for the future. Whether at home or work, Darnell has a love for design and building things. At TI, he is developing advanced camera prototypes that generate both high-definition video and human-consumable information about the video’s contents. He designs IP camera technologies that are increasingly used in homes and businesses to be more aware of people and their activities. By making cameras smarter, they are becoming more perceptive, and significantly more useful.
Darnell is actively exploring the next evolution, which is to equip cameras to perceive the world as we do – in 3D. Darnell envisions multiple cameras embedded in everything from vehicles to household appliances to perform tasks that only humans can do today. Making cameras and other systems smarter and more human-like will lead to a safer world and improve our lives so we will have more time to focus on the things that matter most to us.
Darnell’s dream of autonomous devices will be largely driven by software, where there is a lot of room for innovation. Continuing to build technology platforms that are software programmable allows businesses to deliver differentiated products, and enables customers to take advantage of the stream of ever-growing new applications.
“Innovation in software is an important part of the design equation for next-generation video solutions.” |
