Resolution

WHEREAS, Jack St. Clair Kilby has been chosen to share the 2000 Nobel Prize in Physics for his role in the invention and development of the integrated circuit, or, as it is more commonly referred to, the "chip"; and

WHEREAS, The development of the microchip helped to establish the foundation of modern information technology and heralded the Information Age, typified by creativity, ubiquity, and rapid progress; and

WHEREAS, Jack St. Clair Kilby's pioneering endeavors and brilliant inventions have had worldwide impact of historic proportions, transforming industry, commerce, and everyday life; and

WHEREAS, Jack St. Clair Kilby has received numerous accolades and global recognition, especially by our own nation, which awarded him the National Medal of Science and inducted him into the National Inventor's Hall of fame; and

WHEREAS, Full realization of Jack St. Clair Kilby's impact will not be fully understood for generations, so profound and sweeping are his inventions, including over 50 patents and the co-development of the pocket calculator; and

WHEREAS, Jack St. Clair Kilby is a role model, an intellectual inspiration for aspiring young minds, showing what may be achieved if they dare, dream, and do with relentless dedication, hard work, and an unwavering commitment to excellence; and

WHEREAS, Jack St. Clair Kilby has brought honor to himself, and to the State of Texas, through his revolutionary insights and work, and it is appropriate for him to be saluted by the people of this great state; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That Jack St. Clair Kilby be congratulated on the occasion of his being named a co-recipient of the 2000 Nobel Prize in Physics and that he be honored for his lifetime of achievements.
