Retiring chairman transformed TI and continued community commitment
Tom Engibous, who retired recently as TI's chairman of the board, has been an advocate for diversity and minority and women-owned business development within the company as well as a staunch supporter of quality education and community involvement. His retirement caps a career during which he not only led the transformation of TI into one of the semiconductor industry's best-performing and most admired companies, but also encouraged TI's support of numerous community programs focused on education.

TI supports China earthquake relief efforts
TI employees around the world have expressed their concern for the thousands of citizens in China's Sichuan Province affected by the recent earthquake. In response, TI is pledging $250,000 to aid the American Red Cross China Relief Fund for immediate relief efforts.

HIV/AIDS programs undergoing cutbacks get support from TI Foundation
At its May meeting, the TI Foundation approved a $50,000 donation to the AIDS Interfaith Network (AIN), a faith-based HIV/AIDS service organization that provides prevention programs and direct care services to meet the practical, emotional and spiritual needs of people suffering from HIV/AIDS. The purpose of the grant is to assist AIN's general operations, which are faced with downsizing due to reductions in federal government funding.

$2 million TI Foundation gift endows engineering leadership position at SMU
The TI Foundation recently donated $2 million to Southern Methodist University to endow the Texas Instruments Distinguished Chair in Engineering Education and the directorship of the new Caruth Institute for Engineering Education at SMU. Delores M. Etter was named the first chairholder, and she will lead an effort that could have a lasting and vital impact on the U.S. and its economy.

TI Foundation grant to support Women of TI Fund programs
The TI Foundation approved a $349,000 grant to the Caruth Institute of Engineering Education, part of the School of Engineering at Southern Methodist University, to support program management for the Women of TI Fund (WTIF) High-Tech High Heels programs in 2008, 2009, and 2010 and to fund the expansion of the Advanced Placement (AP) Physics Camps for Girls to the Plano Independent School District (Plano ISD) in 2009 and 2010.

TI presents Junkins scholarships to largest group since 1996
TI Chairman, President and CEO Rich Templeton presented scholarships of $4,000 each to 21 National Merit Scholars from Texas, Arizona and Minnesota, at a luncheon recently at the company's headquarters in Dallas.

TI supports HiTECCC, highlights 2007 accomplishments
The High Technology Education Coalition of Collin County (HiTECCC) made important advancements in 2007, emphasizing high-quality education. HiTECCC is a first-of-its-kind collaborative effort designed to ensure that area students receive an exceptional science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education. The charter members of HiTECCC are the Plano Independent School District, the Collin County Community College District (Collin College) and the University of Texas at Dallas, with an advisory committee of industry leaders from TI, Lockheed Martin, Nortel
and Raytheon. Cisco and Alcatel-Lucent have also joined HiTECCC as members.

Report shows importance of semiconductor industry to U.S. economy
AeA (formerly the American Electronics Association) released its 11th annual "Cyberstates 2008" report recently, detailing national and state trends in high-tech employment, wages, and other key economic factors for all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. TI has been a long-time, active member of AeA.

TI senior fellow testifies before House Science Committee on nanotechnology bill
TI Senior Fellow Bob Doering recently testified on behalf of both TI and the Semiconductor Industry Association before the House Science Committee on the draft National Nanotechnology Initiative Amendments Act of 2008. The bill (H.R. 5940) was introduced on May 1 and included many of the revisions suggested in the testimony.

TI to serve as first innovation-seeking participant in TechQuest program
The Metroplex Technology Business Council (MTBC), the largest technology trade association in Texas, has launched a program called TechQuest, which pairs up large local companies with inventors of technology they might find helpful. The program's objective is to inspire and promote technology entrepreneurship, innovation and commercialization in North Texas.
