Jill Smith and son
TI employees make a difference by contributing their time, energy and talents to causes they hold dear. Here's to some of TI's volunteers!
Supporting the troops
Jill Smith works with Soldiers' Angels to welcome home troops to Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. "I feel compelled to do for others who are serving our country," she said.
Jill has a special interest in supporting wounded soldiers. Her son, PFC Jeremy A. Smith, 101st Airborne, was injured last year in Afghanistan.
Helping others in need
 Richard Woods
Richard Woods volunteers as assistant chief of Dallas County Fire and Rescue, providing training and assisting with emergency calls.
"The main reason I volunteer is to help people in a time of need," he said. "I have gained knowledge in my job at TI to better serve the community, as well as bringing back to TI things I learn with the Fire Department." |
 Dave Hutchison
Dave Hutchison volunteers with the Texas Astronomical Society and Three Rivers Foundation "to help improve outreach activities in science and math. Astronomy was a big reason why I became an engineer. It has the same ability with today's youth."

 Rubén Reyna
Rubén Reyna has coordinated the weekly reading program at Mi Escuelita preschool, a United Way agency, "to help prepare children to have a successful school experience."
TI employees have been reading at Mi Escuelita since 1980, with eight to 12 employees typically participating in the reading program each semester. Reyna and the "TI Readers" were recognized recently by Mi Escuelita as Volunteers of Year. |
Health, human services needs
 Scott Murphy
Scott Murphy recently rode his bike in the two-day "Lone Star AIDS Ride" to help raise money to fight AIDS. He has ridden in at least 18 fundraiser bike rides over the past decade, raising more than $25,000 during that time.
"I do not want a person, or family, to have to choose between food and their life-saving medications," Murphy said. |
 Bruce Willette
Bruce Willette leads a team of TI Facilities Services employees who weren't satisfied with just participating in a United Way "Day of Caring" project once a year. Instead, the team unanimously agreed to turn its community involvement into multiple "Days of Caring."
The group decided to increase its volunteer commitment from one to four times per year. Now, more than 20 Facilities Services employees volunteer quarterly with Meals on Wheels. On a typical day, the volunteers pick up and deliver 200 meals to low-income elderly or disabled homebound individuals in West and South Dallas. |
Exploring varied interests
 Mugdha Gadkari
Mugdha Gadkari volunteers with United Way and "Asha for Education" to help underprivileged people in the community.
"Sometimes we get so lost in our busy lives that we fail to realize a bit of help can go a long way in making a difference in someone else's life," she said. "Volunteering at different forums gives me a sense of satisfaction that I can contribute to the community in my own small way." |
Networking in the community
 Kemi Ogun
Kemi Ogun, HR manager in TI's Power Management unit, participates in quarterly committee meetings and mentoring opportunities with the Urban League and Women's Museum "to give back to my community and to build stronger relationships externally." |
