Solution Description & Supported Functionality

The Full-featured RGB Lightcrafter 6500 System combines a high resolution, high quality projection system based on the DLP LightCrafter 6500 manufactured by Texas Instruments (TI) with a 3 LED, RGB illuminating module and a sophisticated cooling system in an easy to use, plug and play package. The optical design captures the full functionality of the DLP6500FYE DMD, minimizes stray light, eliminates diffraction, maximizes optical throughput and produces images with 90% illumination uniformity. The RGB illumination module combines light from 3 high brightness LEDs and uniformly illuminates the DMD with minimal power loss. The RGB LED driver receives control signals from the DLP board to achieve the desired image brightness and color for any application. The cooling system utilizes heat pipes to efficiently direct excess heat to a fan-cooled heat sink, allowing the system to produce images of up to 1350 lm brightness without adversely affecting performance. Standard and wide-angle lenses are available for the projection system. The system comes with the TI GUI for the DLP6500 and Optecks’ Light Animator software that provides rich features for precise control of system operation.

Software Specifications Light Animator is a software package that allows rapid and more user-friendly development of DLP applications. - Pixelated Canvas represents the micro mirrors within the DMD device - Allow the user to choose the shape of the pixel (square or diamond pixels) - Simply zoom in the DMD array and control up to 4 million micro mirrors - Create animation using the timeline window - Control the illumination duration and the duration of the dark of the DMD of each frame - Trigger in and out pulses to synchronize the DLP device with external devices like CCD camera
Trade-off Analysis The projection system produces highly uniform, high contrast images with minimal distortion and high brightness, in part by separating the illumination and projection optical paths. The illumination intensity provided by the LEDs varies with the wavelength of operation, with green and red providing the highest luminosity and blue and violet producing lower luminosity. The cooling system uses heat pipes and a heat sink to stabilize the LEDs when operating at high power and to minimize heating effects on the electronic systems and the DMD.
