Instruments Germany Certified Against Top Environmental Standards
First Semiconductor Company to Qualify for Both ISO
14001 AND EMAS
Freising, Germany (November 25, 1996) --
Texas Instruments Germany, based in Freising, has received certification for both the
International Standards Organization (ISO) 14001 and the European Union Environmental
Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS), two of the toughest standards for environmental
management systems in the world. TID is the first semiconductor company in the world to be
certified by both organizations.
The certification procedure, done in a record six months, is part of Texas Instruments
ongoing commitment to environmentally-friendly management systems. TI has a worldwide
waste reduction and recycling program that has helped the company reduce waste by 40
percent and recycle 65 percent of non-hazardous waste over a five-year period. In Europe
TI has enacted a program to help bring TI Europe to zero wasted resources by the turn of
the century.
The Freising site has been selected to serve as a pilot in the European region to
implement TI's overall Environmental, Safety and Health (ESH) management system. It is
playing a key role in sharing and exchanging information across TI Europe in order to
develop a common environmental management program.
"Conservation of our natural resources and the continuous improvement of our
environmental management systems is a key priority for Texas Instruments," said
Beatrix Pichl, environmental manager of TI Germany.
Texas Instruments has been operating in Germany for 35 years. Freising is the center for
TI Europes Mixed Signal and Logic Products (MSLP) business. A manufacturing plant is
also located on the site, producing components such as the highly complex logic chips used
for computer and other applications.
