Motor Drive and Control

Motor Control is a key application space for Control + Automation MCUs. There is a digital motor control library and system examples through controlSUITE™ software which support the C28x core on the F28M3x microcontrollers while the ARM can provide system connectivity and communication. The TM4C12x microcontrollers provide a platform for networked control applications.

Automation and process control

Control + Automation microcontrollers are ideal for applications requiring system automation and process control. They are some of the only Cortex-M architecture microcontrollers with both an integrated 10/100 Ethernet MAC and PHY that supports 1588. The TM4C12x series stand out amongst competition as the microcontroller series best-suited for factory automation and process control applications, while the F28M3x microcontroller series provides motor control and application process capability in an integrated microcontroller architecture. The Control + Automation MCUs also include essential features such as performance analog, dual CAN 2.0 ports, extended temperature support, PWM modules and extensive serial connectivity.

F28M3x microcontrollers are uniquely suited for solar power applications. The C28x DSP core has the performance headroom to maximize advanced MPPT algorithms. High-resolution PWMs enable faster transient response to improve the power efficiency of the inverter in the constantly-varying conditions. Fast ADCs allow for increased loop frequencies and, therefore, greater system responsiveness. The ARM® Cortex®-M3 also provides host and application control capable of scheduling and managing system tasks and communication to the outside world. In sum, designers will find F28M3x microcontrollers up to the task for leading solar applications.
