Previous FAQ Question 8 Next FAQ

How to fix: When I attempt to synchronize using Intellisync, Avigo, and my Lotus Organizer 97 database, the error "Unable to Complete Translation" occurs?

Currently, an error can occur when Intellisync for Avigo attempts to read Schedule data from the handheld. You will see this error if at any point you have done the following sequence:

  1. Created a new Schedule entry or edited an existing one on Avigo.
  2. Tappped inside the Repeat box.
  3. Tapped on the Daily, Weekly, Monthly, or Yearly option.
  4. Tapped on the None option. (You changed your mind)
  5. Tapped on the check to accept None as the Repeat option.
  6. Tapped on the check to accept the new or edited Schedule entry.
  7. Synchronized Avigo Schedule data with Intellisync.

In order to correct this problem, you will need to delete the entry on Avigo that was affected as described above. However, you may not remember which entry you did this to. In this case you must try and determine which entries are OK and which are suspect. Use the following to help you in this process:

  1. Resynchronize the Schedule data.
  2. Open the Intellisync software and select File/View Log.
  3. Locate the "Synchronize Avigo Schedule with Lotus Organizer 97 Calendar" section.
  4. See the examples below to help you find, and delete the corrupted entry.

Here is an example log file.

Notice where the file shows the 2 lines 'FILTER "Pay Day"'. These are the last 2 entries that Intellisync is trying to read from the handheld. Directly below these a line states "Total Inputs From First System: 10".

What does all this mean? It means that the 10th entry that Intellisync is trying to read from the handheld is corrupt. Which entry is the third entry? In the case of this example, the tenth entry is another "Pay Day". In fact, there are 5 other "Pay Day" entries, but Intellisync can't get past the third because there is a problem.

To determine whether there are more repeating "Pay Day" entries, tap on Avigo's Find function. Under Search In:, tap on the Schedule option. Tap on the blank line under Look For:. Enter the exact word Pay Day and tap the check for the keyboard. Now tap Find. Avigo will find the first Pay Day entry. Tap Find Next. Avigo locates the second entry. Tap Find Next. Avigo actually locates a third Pay Day entry. This is the corrupted entry. Tap GoTo and delete this entry. When you next synchronize, there should be no error.

The above scenario is a best-case scenario, though. What if the last entry read/filtered is not a repeating appointment? In this case, you at least know which entries are OK (the READ/FILTER entries). Determine which entries were not listed. One of these is the culprit. The order in which Intellisync reads Schedule entries from the handheld is determined by the order you physically entered them into Avigo or PIM software. The entries are NOT read by the date listed for the appointment. To be more specific, if today you were to create an appointment scheduled for 1/31/98 and tomorrow you create an appointment scheduled for 1/29/98, Intellisync would read 1/31/98 entry first, since it was entered before the 1/29/98 entry. How does this help you? You entered the corrupted entry after the last entry listed in the Log file.

The following is part of a worst-case scenario:

In this example, there are no entry names listed, and the bad record is the very first one being read. What can you do? You cannot remember what you edited and this log doesn't help narrow down the list of items to delete. We can try to get a longer listing of entries read on Avigo by changing the field mapping for Calendar in Intellisync.

To do this: Open Intellisync, Select Configure, highlight Schedule, click Advanced, click Field Mapping, click the pull-down in Section and Choose Calendar, click on the arrow pointing to Alarm Flag, Display Alarm? so that it disappears. Click OK until you return to the main screen for Intellisync. Choose Synchronize. After synchronizing the Unable to Complete Translation error should occur. Select File/View Log. Now you should actually see entries being read or filtered on Avigo. Now you may be able to narrow down which entry is corrupt.

If there are still no entries listed, this means that one of the first Schedule entries that you ever put into Avigo is the culprit. Perhaps you can remember which entry is the oldest?

Be sure to go back and reset the Calendar field mapping back to defaults. Open Intellisync, Select Configure, highlight Schedule, click Advanced, click Field Mapping, click the pull-down in Section and Choose Calendar, click Reset, click OK until you return to the main screen for Intellisync.
