))) Mikoh Corporation Adopts Tag-It™ RFID Smart Label Inlays From Texas Instruments

High-security applications to benefit from RFID-enabled labels and seals

))) DALLAS, TX – MCLEAN, VA (July 13, 2000)

MIKOH Corporation, a supplier of specialty security products, today announced it will incorporate Texas Instruments' Tag-it™ radio frequency identification (RFID) smart label inlays into their line of label and seal constructs used for authentication and tamper-indication in high-security applications. Texas Instruments' RFID technology brings advanced data storage and data security capabilities to MIKOH's product offerings used by government and commercial customers worldwide.

Tag-it™ smart label inlays are an easy-to-integrate, cost-effective and consumable RFID solution. Consisting of an integrated circuit, an antenna and requiring no batteries, Tag-it™ is paper-thin,
re-programmable, flexible and capable of being read simultaneously by fixed-position readers and handheld scanners. The programmable feature of Tag-it™ allows application-specific information such as sourcing, inspection, routing, scheduling, inventory data or inspection status to be written to and retrieved from the tags "on-the-fly." User information on the RFID tag can be changed at any time or locked to protect it from being modified. Encrypted serialized information can be locked on the tag to authenticate the tag for high security applications.

MIKOH's RFID-enabled security products strengthen its portfolio of high security technology including its COUNTERFOIL™ covert seals, COPYSHIELD™ overt diffractive technology for anti-counterfeiting and SubScribe™ technology for subsurface laser marking and information storage. MIKOH envisions initial applications for its Tag-it™-based seals and labels to include item management, anti-counterfeiting, document tracking and security, TSCM (Technical Surveillance Counter Measures), inventory control, product warranty service and compliance, and traffic and toll management.

"We were seeing a significant interest from many of our customers for RFID capabilities," explained Peter Atherton, president and CEO of MIKOH Corporation. "The ability to store significant amounts of information and update it on the carrier is a natural complement to our current security products and technology. Tag-it™ not only provides these key functions, but also offers the quality of product and dependability that has long been associated with Texas Instruments."

MIKOH Corporation joins the more than 40 companies who are members of Team Tag-it™, a worldwide program formed by Texas Instruments to lead the development of RFID smart label solutions. Team Tag-it™ gathers together industry leading companies with a diverse range of experience and expertise dedicated to the promotion and further market adoption of RFID smart labels, as well as to explore the emergence of new applications.
