))) Marconi introduces RFID-based
wireless payment

))) GREENSBORO, NC (January 4, 2001)

Greensboro, N.C.-based Marconi Commerce Systems, a division of Marconi Plc., has introduced a new wireless payment option to the retail marketplace, the company announced today. The device uses RFID technology to speed the payment of an order. Customers can purchase products by waving their RFID devices, such as a key tag, in front of the reader, which works with the POS device and host network to complete sales transactions. The key tag and the reader use RFID technology from Dallas-based Texas Instruments to process the purchase by recognizing the customer's account and charging it automatically, the company said. "Cashless payment has become the option of choice for consumers, so retailers need to find the most convenient and efficient way to provide that option," said David Kaehler, president of Retail Solutions of Marconi Commerce Systems.
