RFID Components Limited has introduced a new series of low cost RFID-based contactless chip cards in ISO compatible card format for improved access control, security and building management. Applications include government and commercial premises, sports stadia and entertainment venues, theme parks, ski passes and so on. Based on Texas Instruments’ latest Tag-it™ RFID smart label inlays, these new credit-card sized RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) cards are only 0.76mm thick and conform fully to the latest ISO 15693 industry standard protocols for size and RFID protocols.
The cards can be read when worn on badges and even in wallets or through clothing, allowing handsfree access with full identification and security. The cards can be supplied by RFID Components in blank white form suitable for customisation in a dye-sublimation printer, or they can be pre-printed at source with high quality logos, photographs etc.
Each card has a tiny Tag-it™ inlay embedded in the card. These
Tag-it™ transponders operate at the smart-card industry standard frequency of 13.56MHz and can be read over a range of up to half a metre, without requiring contact, line of sight or orientation. The cards have both read-only unique numbers and read-write memory areas for application use - the read-write memory allows new data to be written to the card or existing data to be updated.
According to Graham Lane of RFID Components, “With their low cost of around £1.28 each in volume quantities and their reliable handsfree operation, these new ISO compatible RFID cards are ideal for unobtrusive access control in many applications including building management and security.”
