Secura Key, a manufacturer of access control solutions, and Texas Instruments Radio Frequency Identification (TI-RFid) Systems, a leading global provider of RFID systems, today announced that they have agreed to a strategic relationship aimed toward establishing interoperability between their 13.56 MHz card and reader solutions that meet the ISO 15693 vicinity card standard for access control applications.
Secura Key's e*Tag cards and readers, and Texas Instruments RFID Systems line of 13.56 MHz access control cards and S6400 series readers are fully compliant with ISO 15693, offering potential compatibility, and more options for organizations implementing 13.56 MHz technology. The security and access control market is also embracing this new access control technology because of its increased level of security and authentication, user programmability and two-way read/write communication, at a price comparable to traditional proximity cards.
13.56 MHz RFID access control solutions offer a unique and secure ID code and enhanced memory for storing multiple applications, such as time and attendance, employee certifications and medical histories, wireless financial transactions and biometrics information, on a single card. On-site user programmability and integration with direct card printer applications provides additional flexibility and saves money because customers can order cards when they need them, and program/print them on demand. Compatibility with the RS-485 communications protocol allows data to be read and written to cards so that they can be updated automatically with new information rather than requiring new badges or cards to be issued.
"Adoption of ISO 15693 RFID technology is an important milestone for the security access control industry," according to Bill Newill, vice president, sales and marketing for Secura Key. "Three years of experience with our e*Tag line of 13.56 MHz reader/writers has demonstrated the tremendous opportunities for integrating security, automatic identification/data capture and mobile commerce applications in a single credential."
"The establishment of ISO 15693 is an important step in our goal of advancing standards and open systems for radio frequency identification technology and is the catalyst that the industry has been waiting for," said Rick Heimann, access control program manager for Texas Instruments RFID Systems. "It's also good news for end-users who want a wide range of choices when implementing 13.56 MHz access control solutions."
