Barcode Scanner

Barcode Scanner

Barcode scanner is used in retail to scan barcodes on products for identification and billing. They can be tethered or battery operated as well as fixed in point of sale or hand-held.

To achieve the desired function the following semiconductor solutions are required:

  • Serial interfaces such as USB, RS232, IBM 46xx (RS485) or wireless such as Bluetooth for which Texas Instruments offers a broad selection of transceivers, signal switches, and protection (against short-circuit, over voltage as well as electrostatic discharge ESD)
  • Processing, especially in the case of CMOS imagers, is needed to decipher the 2D code or barcode and transmit the value to reduce processing time. The Sitara family offers direct imager connections, as well as a broad range of security options
  • Power management for reducing the heat dissipation, as well as maximizing the battery charging and operation time, are also available from Texas Instruments
