Description

Fault indicators indicate the passage of fault current in medium- and low-voltage distribution transmission lines. They identify the section of power line that has failed, thereby reducing the time needed to locate the fault, which is the primary function of a fault location isolation and system restoration-based (FLISR) grid automation system. Fault indicators are self-powered by either using a battery or by harvesting energy from the load current or solar panels, while consuming very low power for maximizing operational life. Fault indicators indicate the current passage status locally using LEDs; more advanced indicators update their status to a central station that has RF capability for communication. TI reference design and semiconductors help:

  • Provide ultra-low-power wired and wireless MCU platforms for monitoring and measuring current and Voltage as well as RF communication
  • Showcase integrated analog ICs like Energy Harvesters, digital-to-analog converters (DAC), LED drivers, battery gauges with integrated FET switches and protection which can be monitored or controlled over I2C interface
  • Cover a range of current (0.5-100 A) and voltage (50-300 V) inputs with a low noise signal chain that produces accurate (≤±2.0%) measurements
