Guitar Amplifier & Other Music Instrument Amplifiers

While guitar amplifiers of the past have traditionally used vacuum tubes in their amplifier stages, solid state amplifiers and digital amp are becoming more popular with musicians due to increased reliability, decreased maintenance costs and weight, and ability to provide a wider magnitude of sound effects. High-power Class-D amplifiers from TI are now achieving excellent THD+N performance while achieving nearly twice the efficiency of Class-AB amps. Additionally, guitar amplifier manufacturers are providing new features to allow the musician to better interface with the amp. These include adding Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connectivity and dial encoders with LCD screens to select different sound effects. To enable guitar amplifier manufacturers to innovate to new levels, TI able to provide the following:

• High performance Class-D amplifiers, with both digital and analog input options, that are offering < 0.01% THD+N to clipping and efficiencies > 90% for producing a high quality audio signal
• Bipolar input, preamps from our audio line achieving a THD+N of 0.000015% (or -136dB @1kHz) to capture line and microphone input signals without distortion
• TI Designs to showcase new inductance-to-digital converters being used in a 32-position encoder knob selecting preset effects on the newest guitar amps
• Multi-core DSP + ARM processors to digitally support the playback of classic guitar effects such as reverb, delay, and flanger
