Design ConsiderationsDigital Pro Audio Mixer Digital Pro-Audio mixers provide a user the ability to mix and transform audio signals, and are often used in professional recording applications. The system typically consists of a General Purpose Processor, which controls input from the user on a mixer console or 'dashboard', which sends the information to a Digital Signal Processor (DSP). Channels desired for mixing are communicated by the DSP to the FPGA, which acts as the traffic controller in the system. Once the signals are digitized (in the case of a microphone or instrument) or normalized (if the signal is coming from another digital system), they are sent to the DSP which performs the audio mixing/processing requested by the user. The mixed audio signals are then sent out to speakers, headphones or other digital devices. The core subsystems include:
