Applications processor module (APM) is used for implementing protection, control, monitoring, communication, display and user interface functions in a Protection Relay. A single micro-controller or a micro-processor or a combination is used depending on the application. An APM not only communicates with different plug-in modules in a Protection Relay but also implements protocols required to communicate with other external systems for data exchange and for data logging during power systems faults. It also supports GUI functions including the graphical display.
