Description

Accurate and reliable temperature measurement is important in a protection relay because temperature drift can have a significant impact on product cost, quality, efficiency and safety. Resistance temperature detectors (RTDs) are often used to monitor motor, generator and power transformers by measuring winding or bearing temperature. RTD module reference designs and ICs from TI:

  • Are compatible with 2-, 3-, and 4-wire RTD inputs for stable, accurate and linear temperature measurement
  • Integrate ADCs with gain amplifiers, precision matched current source and ratio-metric measurement techniques to improve accuracy (±0.4 °C) while maintaining a small footprint at low power consumption levels
  • Cover design guidelines for sensor signal conditioning, sensor linearization, diagnostics, transient protection and recommend software flow, PCB layout optimization and isolation techniques to provide a robust temperature sensor interface
