Description

An alkaline battery and a boost converter are usually used to power the load system which requires high voltage, such as the motor driver in insulin pump. In this reference design, a lithium polymer battery is added to the output of the boost converter to absorb the pulse load current and extend the alkaline battery lifetime. The designed circuit also benefits uninterrupted power supply when the alkaline battery is out of charge.
