TIDA-00388

Low noise linear regulator plus DC/DC with excellent transient response reference design

TIDA-00388

Design files

Overview

This reference design features both a low noise LDO and a DC/DC convertor where both can source of to 3A of output current.  The DC/DC design has focused on keeping transient response within 5%, a requirement when powering core voltages of digital loads.  The LDO output also has good transient response and low noise (< 15 µRMS) making it ideal for powering sensitive clock circuits or digital I/O.

Features
  • Dual 3A Outputs in a small solution size (~400 mm2)
  • 3.3% Transient Droop @ 1.2V, 300mA to 3A, 1A/µs
  • DC/DC output ripple less than 10mV peak to peak
  • High LDO PSRR at switching frequencies: 54dB @ 750kHz, IOUT = 3A
  • LDO output noise less than 15µV RMS, 10Hz to 100kHz
  • Monotonic voltage ramps for both the 1.2V and 1.5V outputs
