Description

TIDA-00875 demonstrates how to reconfigure existing brushed motor drivers to control single phase brushless (BLDC) motors. The DRV8801 and DRV8701 are used to control a single phase BLDC motor. The DRV8801 design controls the motor at 100% duty cycle. When the device is powered up, the motor runs. The DRV8701 design controls the motor using a PWM input to allow speed control. The designs operates from 12V up to 24V, with full scale current of 2.8A peak (DRV8801) or 20A peak (DRV8701).

  • No external control required (DRV8801)
  • External PWM input controls speed (DRV8701)
  • Motor control only. Add addition circuits as desired (reverse voltage protection, EMI/EMC filter, etc.)
