Overview

Controlled by the  MSP-EXP430FR5969 FRAM LaunchPad, this 20-pin boosterpack utilizes the DRV8836 motor driver for operating low-voltage stepper motors with minimal power consumption to better optimize battery life.  Micro stepping logic provides for smooth motor steps, a INA199 current shunt monitor provides a valuable motor status feedback loop, and MSP430FR5969 FRAM technology allows for saved motor states in the event of power supply disconnection.

Features

  • Along with the DRV8836 sleep state, the MSP430FR5969 MCU’s LPM3 and LPM3.5 modes provide longer battery discharge times with average current consumption of 20 μA and 10 μA, respectively
  • Beneficial motor feedback produced by the bi-directional INA199 current shunt monitor featuring low offset and minimal error
  • Motor states left uninterrupted by power cycles due to MSP FRAM technology
  • EnergyTrace++ technology used to measure and optimize low power consumption
  • Java-based GUI included allow the user to design a repetitive 24-hour motor operation schedule by employing the MSP RTC
  • Tested 20-pin Boosterpack hardware design that can be utilized on any TI LaunchPad
