The PMP6938 design uses the TPS54062 synchronous step-down DC/DC converter as an alternative to a linear regulator for 2 wire 4-20mA current loop applications. The design is optimized for small size and fits within 7mm x 15.5mm x 0.8mm board area. The input voltage withstands line transients up to 60V and is configured to deliver 3.3V/30mA at 400kHz. The output filter employs a 4.7uF ceramic output capacitor and a 1mH inductor in a small 1812 package. The efficiency peaks at 70% at 20mA from 12Vin to 3.3Vout.
