StellarisWare® RDK-S2E Windows Configuration Utility

Description

The Stellaris® Serial-to-Ethernet Configuration tools allow you to discover Serial-to-Ethernet modules on your network, set module configuration parameters using your web browser, and create connections between applications running on your PC and remotely-located serial devices connected to Serial-to-Ethernet modules. Connections created allow the PC application to continue operating as before, communicating to the device via a Windows COM port without any changes regardless of the fact that the serial device being used is no longer connected to a local serial port. Connections are created and managed using the com0com and com2tcp open source packages.

Features

Three application shortcuts are created in your Windows Start/All Programs/Luminary Micro/Serial-to-Ethernet Configuration menu:

  • LM S2E Browser
The browser application allows you to find Serial-to-Ethernet modules on your network and access their web-based configuration pages.
  • LM S2E PC Configuration
This application is used to define connections between virtual COM ports on the Windows PC and serial-to-ethernet modules on the network. It writes records to the Windows registry containing information that is later used by the launcher application to start those connections. The PC configuration application makes use of the com0com open source package to create and modify virtual COM port pairs on the PC and offers an easy-to-use, integrated method of setting connections up from a single application.
  • LM S2E Launcher
The launcher application reads registry entries prepared by the configuration application and starts a com2tcp instance to service each connection. This application is typically placed in the Windows startup folder to start the connections automatically when the PC boots but it may also be run manually using the shortcut installed under "Start/All Programs/Luminary Micro/Serial-to-Ethernet Configuration."
