BoosterPack™ plug-in modules allow you to extend the functionality of your TI LaunchPad™ development kit and add features like wireless connectivity, capacitive touch, temperature sensing, displays and much more.

BoosterPack™ Module Pinout Standard

All BoosterPack modules should adhere to the BoosterPack pinout standard shown below to ensure compatibility within the LaunchPad kit ecosystem.

Also, when defining your BoosterPack pinout, be sure to checkout the BoosterPack checker tool to see how your proposed pinout aligns with specific LaunchPad kits & other BoosterPack modules.

Try designing your BoosterPack module to maximize the number of pins that can be shared. Using Busses like I2C and SPI increases the interoperability of your BoosterPack module.

Check the documentation of specific LaunchPad kits to confirm compatibility with the BoosterPack module standard. While most LaunchPad kits comply with the standard, there may be some deviations.

Also note that LaunchPad kits usually offer more than one function at a specific pin. Be aware of pin muxing for additional features and capabilities at each pin.

Other Considerations


When finalizing the dimensions of your BoosterPack module, be sure to think about easy access for underlying components on the LaunchPad™ kit (buttons, LEDs, test points, etc.)

Energia Software Libraries

Don't forget about software! Energia libraries are ideal companions to your hardware. One Energia library can potentially enable multiple LaunchPads kits to work with your BoosterPack module. Be sure to provide the right functionality by exposing the right functions within your library. Upload your library on Git Hub!

Open Source hardware & Licenses

Be sure to be aware of the resources that you use! Also don't forget to think about the license you publish your files under! Here are a few quick references that you may find useful.

This license lets others distribute, remix, tweak, and build upon your work, as long as they credit you for the original creation. This is the most accommodating of licenses offered.

This license lets others distribute, remix, tweak, and build upon your work even for commercial purposes, as long as they credit you and license their new creations under the identical terms. This license is often compared to ‘copyleft’ free and open source software licenses. All new works based on yours will carry the same license, so any derivatives will also allow commercial use. This is the license used by sources such as Wikipedia, and is recommended for materials that would benefit from incorporating content from Wikipedia and similarly-licensed products.

Automate PCB symbols and footprints

Need a symbol or footprint for your favorite EDA tool? Check out for various symbols & footprints, which can be imported into Altium, Eagle, etc.


BoosterPack Combos

Want to pair with other BoosterPack modules? Be sure to review the pin-outs of each BoosterPack module in your BoosterPack module sandwich! Things like VCC, GND, SPI and I2C can ride the same bus, however other pins may conflict as more BoosterPack modules are stacked.

Enable Stack-ability

All LaunchPad kits and BoosterPack modules must use female headers with long male leads (100 mil pitch)

Silkscreening your PCB

Label your pins. Use your silkscreen wisely. Label pins, jumpers and other important components to improve the ease of use of your BoosterPack module.

Feature your BoosterPack module

Once you have built your BoosterPack module and have finalized your pricing and distribution strategy, you can apply to have your BoosterPack module featured on the BoosterPack compatibility tool on the TI Cloud tools website.
